Hacked iPod touch Screenshots

After some fighting, rubber-chicken-waving, near-bricking, etc, I got screenshots working on my iPod Touch. They will find a home on my flickr profile.

iPod Server

For those of you who have installed lighttpd on your iPod Touches and iPhones, I have created a few badges for you. Right Now, there is only an iPod Touch one, but as soon as I can get the iPhone one looking good, I'll put that here.

Amen, Brother

Linux.com recently published an excellent article on The Open Source Process, and what can happen when things interfere with it.

Twice in recent weeks open source projects have surprised me with their lack of openness. In both cases, developers acted or spoke out in such a way as to intentionally push other developers away from their work.
This makes more sense then Anything I have read on the subject. If you are a believer in the Bazaar mentally, I highly suggest that you read the article.

/me is happy

From http://www.apple.com/hotnews/:

Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers.
My favorite is in the footnote:
The SDK will also allow developers to create applications for iPod touch.

Mockup and...

I just finished making a mockup for an notes app my friend is making. In other news, does anyone know of a good video capture program (that's NOT XvidCap) for linux?

For the record, this is good:

Coming Attractions

Look forward to a full VIDEO review of KDE 4. Many things simply cannot be captured with screenshots alone, and I hope this helps somewhat. I don't know when this will be, but assume very end of August to early September.

iPhone Bill

This doesn't need explaining. Just watch. (I accept no responsibility for Jaw Damage after watching this video)

Note: This used to be a Revver video from Justine, it sort of overflowed into the sidebar, messing things up, so I decided to test out the Blogger video widget on it. You can see the original video here.

KDE 4 Beta 1 Review

This page used to contain a review of KDE 4 Beta 1. However, under the following circumstances, I have decided to take it down:

  • After examination, I was using KDE 4 3.91, an alpha release.
  • The Live CD I used in the review was not at all usable, leading me to believe something was wrong.
A more accurate and complete review will be posted later. KDE 4 is installing in my Virtual Machine as I type this. I also plan on making YAK4 Live CD (Yet Another KDE 4 Live CD). I apologize for the previous review. No matter how I word this, It was still my fault. Dan

ToasterOS

Toasters are simple devices that can no longer be the butt of my malformed jokes. Toasters should toast bread, and nothing else. They should not run Unix, BSD, Linux, etc. They should toast bread, and that should be it.

I froze hell.

Don't ask how, I managed to FUBAR my Linux system. (Note to self: It's Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring). Don't expect much of me for a little bit. As a side note, I just noticed that Newegg.com is now selling Cell Phones from AT&T wireless. No iPhone though.

Safari for Windows!!!???

I do believe that hell has frozen over. Safari for Windows. I'll just pause to let that sink in. Safari is, in my opinion, one of the better web browsers out there. However, I still do not understand why Apple needs to release Safari for Windows. The second browser wars (IE vs. Firefox) are already in full force, so why do people need Safari for Windows? I would love to hear your feedback, so leave your thoughts in the comments.

Make a suggestion

It has occurred to me through a variety of e-mails that some people would like to make a suggestion for a review. I have created a form that will allow you to do just that. Just Suggest an App!

A shot survey...

In my japanese class, the topic somehow turned to Web Browsers (as long as it's in japanese, we can pretty much say anything we want). The following is the results, taken from my cell phone (note to the overzealous: I took this after the last bell rang, when we are allowed by our school to turn our cell phones on.) For those unfamilliar with Japanese "Tally marks", Each Stroke is the same as one tally. For the impatient, IE - 6, Firefox - 10.
